Self Assessment Strategies

  • Are you new to Canada and unfamiliar with Ontario schools and the types of student/teacher relationships that are common, even if you have taught in another country?
  • Do you find it difficult to communicate your ideas in written or spoken English?
  • Are you anxious about being understood by professors, peers, and the students with whom you will be working this year?
  • Would you like some strategies to help you communicate more effectively in your classes at OISE/UT and in the classrooms where you will be doing your practice teaching?
If you find yourself answering yes to one or more of the above questions, you may want to consider participating in some of the language and culture support services offered for non-native English speaking (NNES) and New Canadian teacher candidates. These services are designed to help you succeed in the pre-service program and feel more confident as you prepare to work in Ontario classrooms.
